The Moultrie-based owner of this 16-foot-long Tracker Grizzly contacted Precision Audio in Bainbridge while researching an aluminum boat spray-in liner solution. The floor and sides of the hull get unbearably hot when the boat is out on the water, and the client had heard that Line-X was an excellent solution. We met with the client and discussed the benefits of Line-X, and provided him with a quote to install Line-X on the hull.
Aluminum Boat Spray-in Liner Preparation
The client already had already taken the seats out, so once we had the boat at the shop, our first step was to remove the remaining equipment so we could prep the hull. We removed the fire extinguisher, battery boxes, trolling motor and wiring. Once the hull was empty and wiped down to be sure it was free of any contaminants, we started the sanding process. We have heard of other shops that forego this step. Even though Line-X is the toughest and most durable spray-on bedliner in the industry, it needs something to bite into to adhere properly. The sanding process is paramount for the reliability of the coating.
With the hull prepped, we masked off the transom, console, seat mounts and any portions of the hull that we would not be coating. We applied a primer seal to the hull and ensure the coating would adhere correctly.
Custom-color Line-X Bedliner Installation
The client asked that we tint the coating to match the boat’s Forest Green color. We sourced a very similar olive-green pigment and mixed it with the liner to maintain the look of the boat. After donning respirators, we laid down a thick coating of bedliner and followed it up with a textured coat to improve traction when things get wet.
In a truck application, we would finish the installation with a clear-coat finish. Since this boat is used for fishing, the client opted to forego the glossy finish to reduce glare.
The Line-X Difference
This aluminum boat spray-in liner will not only make the boat more comfortable, but the Line-X coating will prevent corrosion and leaks. It also serves as a great sound-damping material and will dramatically reduce noise that passes through the hull. Line-X backs every installation with a lifetime warranty against cracking, peeling or bubbling, so the client can be confident his boat will look great forever.
