A client from Coolidge, Georgia, recently visited Precision Audio to inquire about some stereo, suspension, bumper and accessory upgrades for his 2022 Jeep Gladiator. The client wanted to give the vehicle a rugged look with suspension and accessory upgrades from Rough Country. He also wanted us to design and install a stereo system upgrade that would sound amazing. After talking with one of our product specialists, we put together a plan that would make this cool Jeep even more outstanding.
Jeep Stereo Upgrades
Upgrading the stereo system in a Jeep is an involved process, but we’ve done enough of these to know what works well and sounds great. We started with a set of Rockford Fosgate P1650 speakers for the front of the vehicle. These Punch Series drivers sound great, even when powered by the factory radio. The focus of the upgrade was a custom subwoofer system. Our technicians designed and constructed a custom subwoofer enclosure that fits under the rear seat. We finished the enclosure in a black carpet that’s a close match for the stock carpeting.
The enclosure is home to a single Rockford Fosgate T1S1-10 10-inch shallow-mount subwoofer from the Power Series. This driver includes premium features like a distortion-reducing copper cap on the T-yoke and a dual-wound voice coil that allows the sub to deliver 30 millimeters of linear excursion. We added the T1SG-10 grille to the sub to protect it when someone is sitting in the rear seats.
The client chose an equally impressive Rockford Fosgate T500-1bdCP monoblock amplifier to drive the subwoofer. This amp is rated to produce 500 watts of power into the subwoofer’s 2-ohm voice coil with very low distortion and excellent efficiency. We used an AudioControl LC2i to connect the amp to the output of the factory source unit.
Renegade Suspension Upgrade
The client wanted more front tire clearance, so he chose a Rough Country 63400 2.5-inch leveling kit. Our technicians installed the heavy-duty coil spring spacers along with the new bump stops and sway bar links to bring up the front of this four-door off-roader. As with all Rough Country products, all the necessary hardware was included, so we had no problem completing the installation. Once the parts were in place, we torqued all the fasteners to factory specifications using a Snap-On torque wrench.
Rough Country Bumpers and Accessories
The last step was to install a new set of Rough Country bumpers, some lights and a winch. Our technicians removed the stock front and rear bumpers to make way for the Full-Width Trail Bumper with an integrated winch mount and light bar. We added a Rough Country Pro9500S 9,500-pound winch, one of their LED light bars and a set of light cubes for the outer portion of the bumper. They also installed a 10646 Heavy-Duty rear bumper on the back of the Jeep with a second set of flood-pattern cube lights.
The finishing touch on the project was the 50-inch Rough Country 70750BL light bar that’s mounted above the windshield using Rough Country’s 70063 mounting brackets designed specifically for Jeep Renegades and JL chassis-code Wranglers. The cast-aluminum brackets attach to the sides of the windshield for a mean, clean look. All the wiring for the lights is run neatly and safely through the engine compartment to a set of switches in the interior. The winch is connected directly to the battery so it can get all the current it needs to pull the Renegade out of any adventure it might find.
Georgia’s Best Jeep Upgrades
The client returned to Precision Audio to pick up the vehicle after a couple of days. He was thrilled with how it looked and was excited to hear the new speakers and subwoofers. The tight, controlled bass and smooth midrange performance from the Rockford Fosgate upgrades were precisely what he was going for.
