JL Audio Stealthbox Design Philosophy
When a new vehicle is introduced to the market, the engineering team at JL Audio starts investigating enclosure mounting locations and design opportunities. The key philosophy of the Stealthbox series is to provide amazing bass performance from a solution that doesn’t take up valuable storage space in the vehicle. The engineering team uses the TW1, TW3 and TW5 shallow-mount series of subwoofers in optimum air-volume enclosures to create a solution that provides excellent efficiency, low-frequency extension and power handling.
Subwoofer Enclosure Construction
Once the design team has completed its prototype enclosure, the product and marketing staff each provide their feedback to the development team to ensure the sound quality meets or exceeds their expectations. From there, custom molds are created for each half of the fiberglass enclosure.
During construction, skilled technicians apply thick layers of resin-impregnated fiberglass to each mold half. Once the resin has cured, the edges of the mold are trimmed, and the two halves are bonded together using an epoxy adhesive. The edges are sanded smooth and the enclosure is wrapped in a durable carpet that matches the interior of the vehicle as closely as possible before the subwoofer is installed.
JL Audio takes the process of matching the color of each carpet very seriously. Each enclosure is given a Match Grade rating of Perfect, Excellent, Good, Fair or Poor based on how closely the carpet matches. Perfect and Excellent ratings consider an allowance for variance in dye lots and textures. For enclosures that are not visible once installed, JL provides a Not Applicable rating.

A difficulty rating for each installation is provided to help us quote an appropriate time to perform the installation.
