One of our clients from Bainbridge came to us with a 2013 Ram 1500, looking to upgrade his factory radio to one with built-in Apple CarPlay. Another concern of his was being able to keep his factory backup camera intergraded into the tailgate handle on his truck. Once we got a feel for what he was looking for, one of our sales staff showed him a few units with the exact features he was looking for. It wasn’t a surprise to us when he picked out one of our favorite Kenwood Excelon pieces and set a date to get his new radio installed.
The Kenwood unit has a crisp 7″ touchscreen with a built-in CD/DVD receiver, bluetooth, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Features like CarPlay and Android Auto allow the customer to be completely hands-free when driving while using Siri or Google. He will be able to make calls, send texts, and even operate Google Maps or Waze without taking his hands off the steering wheel.
To complete the install, we used a Pac Installation kit for select Ram trucks with factory 8″ displays. One of our favorite parts of the kit is the factory-matched dash kit with a complete set of climate control knobs and buttons that integrates an aftermarket radio to look and operate exactly like the factory. Other features we were able to keep with the use of this kit include the operation of his factory backup camera and steering wheel controls. This kit also allows us to view performance gauges or information about the vehicle, such as tire pressure, engine temperature and even fuel levels through the new replacement radio.
After finishing the install, we took him outside to show him how to work his new radio, and he was pumped!
