Premium Stereo Upgrade for Albany Toyota 4Runner

A client from Albany, Georgia, brought his 2022 Toyota 4Runner to Precision Audio searching for a stereo system upgrade. He wanted a high-end source unit with a large display that would play every conceivable music format and provide smartphone integration technologies like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. He also wanted us to upgrade the speakers in the SUV. After auditioning several radios and speaker options on our displays, we put together a package that would sound amazing and give him the features and performance he wanted.

Kenwood Radio Upgrade

The Kenwood radio features a large touchscreen packed with multiple features for integration and accessibility.

With the help of the iDatalink Maestro RR, the radio can display tire pressure and other vehicle information.

Our installation experts ensured all the integrative features of this radio were functioning correctly.

The new sound system in this 4Runner is based around the Kenwood DMX-1057XR. As one of the eXcelon Reference units, this radio has all the bells and whistles and excellent sound quality. The installation of this radio into the 4Runner required several accessories to complete. First, we used a Maestro RR interface to connect the radio to the factory amplifier and the 360-degree camera system that came with the truck. We added the Maestro USB and Satellite antenna adapters to use the factory-installed components. Finally, we used an installation kit from Metra Electronics that was finished in the same silver as the rest of the dash to mount the radio. As this is a floating-face radio, the massive 10.1-inch display sits just in front of the dash. The symmetrical design of the radio face makes it look right at home.

Aside from being a connectivity solution, the Maestro RR allows the radio to talk to the computer network in the vehicle so it can display information like engine speed and vehicle speed. It can also show tire pressure information and the electrical system’s voltage.

JL Audio Speakers Deliver Great Sound

The client chose three sets of JL Audio’s C2-650X 6.5-inch speakers to upgrade the audio system’s performance. We mounted the speakers in the stock locations to maintain the original look of the interior while providing much better sound. A set of JL Audio C2-075ct tweeters were added for a little extra clarity on the top end.

After a full day’s work, we had the new radio and speakers integrated into this Toyota 4Runner. We helped the client pair his smartphone to the radio using the wireless connectivity and showed him how the voice recognition features work to let him send text messages, make phone calls or choose entertainment options. He cued up some of his favorite music to check the new speakers. He loved what he heard.
