Bainbridge Client Upgrades Ram 1500 with Radio and Subwoofers

A client from Bainbridge recently contacted the team at Precision Audio to inquire about upgrading his Ram 1500 with a new radio and subwoofer system. We inspected the truck to determine what space would be available for the subwoofer, then returned to our showroom and presented the client with several radio options. He liked the idea of adding a multimedia receiver with CarPlay and Android Auto. With a radio chosen and a subwoofer system designed, the client scheduled an appointment for our team to complete the installation.

Ram 1500 CarPlay and Android Auto Radio

The client chose a Pioneer AVH-2440NEX multimedia receiver to upgrade his truck. This radio features a 7-inch touchscreen that makes it easy to see what song is playing or to choose music from a USB memory stick. The Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration make use of the voice recognition features of the client’s smartphone to allow him to send text messages, make phone calls or get navigation directions without taking his eyes off the road. We used a Metra dash kit to mount the double-DIN radio in the dash and allow the factory trim piece to fit nicely.

Pickup Truck Subwoofer System

The bass package gave this Ram a much needed increase in low-end output.

The enclosures were designed to fit in the rear storage pockets.

JL Audio W1 subwoofers were the perfect choice for this Ram.

We started the bass upgrade by installing a set of JL Audio 10W1v3-4 subwoofers into a pair of Audio Enhancers DQ30C10 enclosures. The enclosures fit into the storage area under the rear seat and feature an extremely durable carpeted finish. We added a pair of JL Audio SGRU-10 grilles to the subs to protect them should the client need to flip the seat up and load large items into the truck.

A JL Audio RD500/1 amplifier produces up to 500 watts of power for the pair of subs. Once we ran power cable up to the battery, an RCA interconnect to the radio and speaker wires to the subwoofers, our team used our AudioControl DM-RTA signal analyzer to set the sensitivity control and crossover on the amp to ensure that the system would play loudly without distorting. This configuration process is crucial to ensuring the long-term reliability of the system and is one that most do-it-yourselfers can’t accomplish accurately.
