A client from Thomasville came to Precision with a 2017 Jeep Compass, looking to upgrade the factory radio to a more up-to-date unit with built-in Apple CarPlay and a rear-view camera. This Jeep Compass happened to be a base model, so it was not equipped with a backup camera or Bluetooth capabilities. We took our client over to our radio display and let them see a few radios that offered more modern smartphone connectivity. With a radio picked out, we set an appointment for the following week.
The customer chose a Pioneer DMH-2660NEX with a screen that offers a vibrant 7-in display that can be installed using a double-DIN installation kit. This radio features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which gives the customer an incredibly intuitive way to make calls, use maps, listen to music, and send and listen to messages with just a word or a touch.
Our installers added this radio to the vehicle using a Metra 996545B dash kit. The dash kit is painted with a scratch-resistant matte-black finish to match the original look and feel of the vehicle’s dashboard. Most shops use crimping connectors and tape. Over time, heat and vibration will cause these connections to come apart. This can lead to shorting-out issues in the vehicle’s wiring harness. Our installers take the time to solder and heat-shrink every connection of the wiring harness. This forms an air-tight, water-tight seal just like the factory wiring harness.
After hooking up the radio, we installed one of our Echomaster PCAM-10L cameras. This IP67-rated camera will withstand all weather conditions and provide a clear 170-degree view behind the vehicle. The Echomaster camera also gives the customer the option of seeing parking lines, which makes it easier to parallel park or navigate while in reverse.
The customer was pleased with the way their Jeep Compass upgrades turned out.
