One of our clients from Thomasville came to us with a 2005 BMW Z4, looking to upgrade his factory radio to a more up-to-date unit with built-in Apple CarPlay. He also wanted to add a backup camera but retain his Sirius XM. While discussing his options, we took him to our showroom floor to show him a few units with those exact features. With a clear understanding of what he wanted, we set a date to install his new radio.
The Pioneer DMH-WT8600NEX offers a large (10-in) floating display that can be installed using a universal Single-DIN chassis. The floating screen offers horizontal, vertical and tilt adjustability to ensure the best fit and usability in the vehicle’s dash. Apple Carplay and Android Auto give the customer an incredibly intuitive way to make calls, use maps, listen to music, and verbally send and listen to messages with just a word or a touch.
Our installers take the time to solder and heat-shrink every connection of the wiring harness. This forms an air-tight, water-tight seal just like the factory wiring harness. Most shops use crimping connectors and tape. Over time, heat and vibration will cause these connections to come apart. This can lead to shorting-out issues in the vehicle’s wiring harness.
After hooking up the radio, we installed one of our Echomaster PCAM-10L cameras. This IP67-rated camera will withstand all weather conditions and provide a clear 170-degree view behind the vehicle. The Echomaster camera also gives the customer the option of seeing parking lines, which makes it easier to parallel park or navigate while in reverse. We also installed the SXV-300 from Sirius XM to retain his factory XM.
The customer was pleased with the way his BMW upgrades turned out.
