A client from Tallahassee recently contacted the team at Precision Audio to ask about upgrading the radio in his Ford F-350 and adding a bed cover. The truck came with a very basic AM/FM/CD receiver. The client wanted something that would work with his smartphone to make communication easier while driving. He also wanted a solution for concealing and protecting the bed contents on this big dually. After he explored the radio options on our displays and browsed our selection of bed covers, we put together an upgrade package that would deliver on all his expectations.
Ford F-350 Radio Upgrade
The client chose a Pioneer DMH-C2550NEX double-DIN multimedia receiver to serve as the heart of his audio system upgrade. This radio features a 6.8-inch color touchscreen, so it’s easy to see what station he’s on or what track is playing. The new radio also includes both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration. These communication technologies allow the owner to send text messages, make phone calls or select entertainment options using simple voice commands. He can also get detailed turn-by-turn navigation prompts to almost anywhere in North America by asking for directions to an address or business.
We used a PAC RadioPro RP4-FD11 module to interface the radio to the CAN network in the vehicle. The interface allows the buttons on the steering wheel to work with the new radio. All the connections between the interface wiring and the radio harness are soldered to ensure that they remain reliable. Other companies use connectors, which can come loose over time.
We finished the infotainment system upgrade by installing an Echomaster PCAM 10L camera above the rear license plate. The image from the camera displays automatically whenever the vehicle is in reverse to make parking and maneuvering safer.
Premium Truck Bed Protection
The client wanted a tonneau cover that would protect the bed’s contents. He chose the Pace Edwards M-BLF7084 Bedlocker cover with its double-wall aluminum slats. The bed cover is motorized and includes a wireless key fob. The client can push the open button on the remote, and the cover will retract into the storage container behind the cab. The cover can be locked in any position if he needs to carry larger objects in the truck bed. The black powder-coat finish will keep it looking great for many years.
