A client from Thomasville, GA, recently stopped by Precision of Thomasville to inquire about getting some audio equipment installed in his new 2021 Jeep Gladiator. The customer was referred to us by a friend for whom we recently did a similar install. While talking to the customer, we walked outside to look at his vehicle and see what options were available. After discussing several options, we came up with a plan and set an appointment to complete the audio installation on the following day.
To begin the install, we removed the 4-inch speakers from the lower dash and sound bar. Using custom speaker adapters, we were able to replace the factory speakers with Rockford 6.5-inch 3-way speakers. We then used the customer’s Rockford Fosgate R300X4 4-channel amplifier to help drive the new speakers. This amp will continuously feed 75 watts to each speaker, insuring a crystal-clear sound without any distortion.
Once the speakers were installed, we then began building a custom box that would fit underneath the rear seat of the Gladiator. We design and build all our custom boxes to the manufacturer specifications of each subwoofer, which prolongs the life of the subwoofer. Due to the limited space, we ran one 10-inch JL Audio 10TW3 subwoofer in a ported box, powered by a JX500/1 amplifier. We designed this custom box to have an internal volume of 0.60 cu. ft. and be tuned to 32 hz.
Once we complete a box, we wrap it with carpet or spray it with Line-X bedliner, depending on the preference of the customer.
We finished the project by setting the crossovers and level controls on the amplifiers to make sure the system sounds great. The customer was thrilled with the depth of bass and the performance of the new speakers.
